Marseille, a port city in the south of France, has been a crossroads of trade and immigration since it was founded by the Greeks around 600 B.C. At its heart is the Vieux-Port, where fishermen sell their catch on the quayside lined with boats. The Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde is a Romanesque church of Byzantine inspiration. Modern buildings include the Cité Radieuse, a housing unit designed by Le Corbusier, and Zaha Hadid's Tour CMA CGM.
