The Mediterranean island of Corsica offers a variety of landscapes: chic coastal towns, dense forests and rugged mountains (Monte Cinto peak is the highest). Almost half of the island's territory is classified as a nature park, where it's possible to hike, notably on the GR20, renowned for its difficulty. Some of the island's beaches, such as Pietracorbara, are very popular, while others, such as Saleccia and Rondinara, are fairly isolated. Corsica has been part of France since 1768, but its culture is still marked by Italian influences.
